TTD Agarbattis sale from 13

Newswand: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Agarbattis would be sold from September 13 as the manufacturing activity has reached the final stages.

The Agarbattis (incense sticks) would be available in the stores in Tirumala and Tirupati. They would be sold with seven brand names as Tirumala has seven hills.

It may be recalled here that Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam has decided to reuse the flowers being used in the garlands in the temples of Tirumala and Tirupati. It has decided to manufacture Agarbattid from them.

Flower garlands are used extensively in the temples every day. The usage would be much high during the festival days.  Usually they would be thrown out on the next day. The TTD wanted that the flowers should be reused and came out with the idea of manufacturing Agarbattis from them.

Darshan International, a Bengaluru based company, has come forward to manufacture incense sticks from the used flowers. TTD has entered into an agreement with that company and allotted land for the manufacturing unit at SV Gosala. Darshan International has procured men and material from its own funds and started the process of manufacturing.

The TTD staff would collect the used flowers every day and give them to Darshan International unit. The trained staff of the company would segregate the flowers as per the variety. The flowers would be dried and would be converted like flour.

The flower flour would be mixed with water and with some other materials. From the paste the incense sticks would be prepared. Then they would be dried for 15 to 17 hours. The sticks would be dipped in aromatic liquids, dried and packed.

As many as 3.50 lakh sticks would be manufactured every day with the help of 10 machines at the Darshan’s manufacturing unit.

The names of the brands are 1) Abhayahastha 2) Tandanana 3) Divyapada 4) Aakrushti 5) Srushti 6) Tushti 7) Drushti.
